Can I just tell you how glad I am for blogging and a little female comunique? I will admit I get on my blog just to read y'alls comments. It is like hearing your voice and benefitting from your sparkling personalities whenever I want. (or whenever the children will allow me the time) At night when I am trying to get to sleep I often distract myself with brainstorming ideas for various aspects of my life, and in my half asleep stupor I came up with the idea to right a random question for y'all ( I take my kentucky time very seriously people and reserve the right to say y'all, but it is getting redundant so I won't say it again.) to answer in the comment section so I can spend even more time reading what you've got to say. The idea is to just think of something totally unimportant and fun for a few seconds of your day so, here goes:
Question #1. Where is your "heaven" on earth?
You know that place you close your eyes and think of when you need to destress? Or the good book, movie or bubble bath scent that takes you away......
My Answer: Monticello. My home town located beneath the blue mountains, (5 miles southeast of buckboard flat, just for you dad) Whenever I am having contractions, I close my eyes and think of a day I spent on my front porch staring at the clouds roll across the mountains and contemplateing life. Maybe this ? is a little cheesy,.....I promise that they will get a little more silly as the weeks go by.
Thanks for satisfying my need!

My heaven on earth? Hum... Not a place for me but the atmosphere of Sunday afternoons. Church is out, lunch is fed, babies are sleeping and the house is quite. Eager to commit myself to my scriptures and soak in all that my mind and soul will devour. This will rejuvenate me for the upcoming week. Mag, good question!!
opps, my house is quiet.
For me, it is a CLEAN house. I LOVE that time...for me, around 1pm...when all the kids are at school and Madilyn is taking a nap; the dishwasher is running; the bathrooms smell fresh; the lines in the carpet are still there; the counters are clear...it's about this time that the afternoon sun hits the back of my house, so the kitchen/family room is warm and bright. I sit on the chair in the family room for a minute and just...well, sit. No where to be, no one to see.
(Contrast that with about two hours later when the kids get home: the most CHAOTIC time of the day!!) :o)
You should come up with a question every week - it would be fun to read. :o)
Hm...Either a good book, or a hike. I love being out in nature just walking around and being. It clears my head and definately destresses me. It is the best when snowshoeing. Everything is so quiet-just the sound of the shoes on the snow and perhaps the occasional bird noise. Plus, you are working hard to walk through the snow so you get extra endorphins!
This will probably sound cheesy too, but mine is when I can steal away for a few minutes to play my guitar. I have always been able to play, but just in the past year or so has my love been renewed and I have actually practiced enough to be able to play something recognizeable...my favorite part is when my kids sneak in and start singing with me. Yes, even Layton knows a good variety of Dixie Chicks songs! So for me, music is my heaven. Thanks for provoking my thoughts Mags!
Hmmm. De-stress, that sounds nice. I think my little bits of heaven on earth are a nice warm shower (when I can ignore the kids for a few mintues). And also I love a good brisk walk (when the kids stay nicely inside the jogging stroller). Refreshing. Good idea. I love seeing new posts on your blog, so post away!
I have three heavens:
Past:I use to love to just drive. One time when I was going to school Cedar I found myself driving all the way to St. George just to drive and sing my heart in the car. In a perfect world that is what I would do, but the gas prices have haulted that.
Present: I don't know what it is about a sleeping baby that can make the world just stop. My sweet little Lilly, bless her heart, I have trained her well, won't sleep in my arms for long. She has to be in her crib were she can sprawl. I have caught a glimps of Heaven when I lay her on my bed and take a nap next to her. While she has my finger in her hand!!!
Constant:I like watching a good movie. It is usually one that I have seen over and over again sot I don't have to really sit and watch with all my attention. After Lilly goest to bed, I cuddle up on the couch with either my sweet husband or a levi blanket.
p.s. I will send a picture of the blues!
I'll join in, if ya don't mind. I would say my heaven on earth would be picturing me and my hubby cuddling on warm grass on a sunny day talking and laughing about nothing important and watching our kids off laughing and having a blast all together (no fighting allowed just fun) in the distance. No worries, just warmth and family. (and possibly the promise of chocolate later on).
Hmmm, it's hard to pick one. I love to explore, whether it's in my own community or when traveling a little further. The thrill of discovering a beautiful spot on a rock by a stream on a mountain hike, or a nice place to people watch in Paris, or even a fun new park in my own town makes me feel fulfilled. I even get a thrill out of discovering a new road home!
I, too, love a good book, fiction or non-fiction. Life would have a lot less color without books.
An everyday pleasure for me is "hug and cuddle" time at bedtime with Ethan. The day is done, the house is clean, I have no more responsibilities and I can lay in bed and talk and hug and cuddle with Ethan. He also knows that the day is done and is not rushing off to do something and content to just talk and think and talk. We have amazing talks at bedtime. I hope I can keep that time with him as long as possible.
Wow, what a question. I had to think about this one, but I thought of a couple. First of all, I'd have to say waterskiing. I LOVE going boating. Waterskiing itself is AWESOME, and it just makes me feel so good and refreshed and tired. But also sitting in the front of the boat for a long boat ride. I love just watching everything around me and being on the water.
The other one is the kids bedtime. It's such a quiet, peaceful time in our house where I can look at the clock and think that I still have a few hours of this where Trevor and I can sit and watch tv or talk or whatever we want before we go to bed, too.
Good question Maggie! Keep up the posting :)
Thanks everyone for your answers, they made me rethink mine! cuddling with babies, hiking, reading, scripture study, talking with older children, soaking up that "clean moment" before kids wake-up or come home, water skiing.... it all sounds like heaven to me! I will do a new question once a week, check in on Saturday or Sunday night, when a new question will appear!
ps please feel free to keep commenting here. i didn't mean that as a wrap up or anything
I would have to say, the roof of the house I grew up in in Dallas. It became my "get away" in High school, and the night before Travis and I got married, I climbed up there and just layed back to watch the clouds move and think about the covenant's I was about to make. I miss that little corner near the chimney.
Right now in my life, my Heaven on Earth is the 5-10 minutes every morning that I get to talk to Geoff. It is very sad that it took him having to deploy for 15 months for me to realize just how much he means to me and the girls. He really did do a lot while he was here! I keep wishing time would go by faster so that his coming home comes sooner. My mom tells me not to wish my life away. My response was, he is my life! When he is back home, life can slow down. 5 months down, 10 to go!
I think mine is just being with family, simple as it is. My happiest memories are just random Thanksgivings with everyone there, summers in Monticello, sunday dinners at my mom's....just having everyone around who you love and loves you is heaven.
Great question-I also agree that I love to read others blogs and somewhat communicate with the outside world and other mommmies! One of my heavens on earth is on a boat at Lake Powell. Nothing beats listening to great tunes, sun beating down on you with the breeze from the cruising boat and being with my family all at the same time-not to mention the picturesque scenery! Total relaxation!
For some reason, the first place I thought of is that old "wood-hauling" spot, Mags. Where we drank the spring water using the aspen leaves as cups? (I can't believe we didn't catch some horrible disease.) That may be the most beautiful place in the world to me.
But I also love the Colorado mountains because they hold so many Anderson family jeeping memories. Holding the babies (my own or my brothers) in the back of a rocking jeep, laughing when the jeep inevitably has a problem, picking wildflowers in the valleys and throwing snowballs at the tops of the passes. It makes me ache for the West.
Heaven on earth...that would have to be the beach. Not growing up near a beach, and not even seeing one until I was 16 has made me a lover. There is this feeling I get everytime I'm standing there with cool sand between my toes. It puts things into perspective for me. The ocean is so vast and overwelming, and I am just a speck in comparison. It makes me feel so small, which honestly I need sometimes.
Hmmmm, my heaven on earth is walking in the woods. As a kid growing up in New England I loved playing in the woods - huge maple, oak, and beech trees (think Sacred Grove). I love the way the sunlight dapples down through the branches, and the smell of the woods on a summer day.
That is a hard question to answer because there have been so many times in my life that heaven has felt close. I think though it's the small everyday things like my daughter smiling at me, Jeff holding my hand and telling me he loves me, the way my house feels after I vacuum it, dinner cooking in my oven, listening to beautiful music, the sound of crickets chirping on a warm summer night, the glow of fireflies in Kentucky, and the smell of the Earth after a rainstorm. Those are just a few things that make me realize Heaven really isn't that far away!!
