Burning question of the week #8

i've been inspired lately by quotes. most recently from songs on my ipod shuffle.
i love cake, the dessert and the band. saying that sounds like i follow them, really i don't know any new songs, just old 1990's ones. my new favorite quote comes from the song
"love you madly"
"....the ornaments are pretty but they're pulling down the branches on the tree."

two reasons for my new found love of cake:

it reminds me for some reason my old brain can't quite remember of these two.

em, because i think she used this song as fuel for her "i don't wanna get hitched" fire. which i'm sure she is glad, inevitably and thankfully burned out anyway,
and kell, because she was into cool music 12 years ago when i was in my pious, self righteous stage. self righteous maggie was not fun. i'm talking serious, sinful, self-righteousness. be glad you know "nicely balanced" maggie. anyway kell's cool music choices have stuck with me and now give me reason to contemplate some wisdom. yes people i do believe i've found a shred of wisdom in some rock music.

so let's get back to the quote. i like it cause it reminds me to be authentic, it reminds me to let go of dwelling on all the lists of goods i want, and focus on what we really need, it reminds me that i am at my best when i am stripped of all my make-up and beauty aids and am forced to find what really lies underneath it all. it reminds me to find the good in myself again.

so burning question: What totally random, thought quote or scripture refrence is inspiring you?

And because i am not totally stripped of piousness, here's a lovely scripture that has inspired me as of late. because, really, what could be more inspiring than that? 3 nephi 12:45
typing this has stirred up old memories of other songs that remind me of old pals.... i may have to list them someday. or maybe we'll make that a burning ? for the future.

"Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." James Barrie, the author of Peter Pan

I think this was quoted by President Uchtdorf in the General Relief Society broadcast. I was inspired by his whole talk, but I loved how simple this quote is. All we need to be happy, is to make others happy!

I don't know if I can say that this is inspiring me, but I certainly can't get it out of my head!!! Ethan is into the 60's cartoons of Spiderman and he is slowly learning all the words to the Spiderman theme song. His most recent discovery are these lines, and he asked me to explain what they meant:

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He's ingnored
Action is his reward.

Now I can't get the words/tune out of my head, and it IS a good message! Action IS our reward (in the same vein as "laying up treasures in heaven"). Sorry, best I can do this week, it's one of those songs that can drown out any other thoughts!

i really like the line..."love is a part of me, love is the heart of me, love is the best thing we do." from an ashley simpson song L.O.V.E. I remember ben writing us a letter when he was in puerto rico saying one of the things he had learned on his mission is that "all you need is love." words to live by...would save alot of heart ache. Other than illness...it would save almost all heart ache.

Hymn # 124
Helamen 5:12
"Don't let the fear of striking our keep you from playing the game!"

God doesn't always answer prayers right away, but he always answers them on time!"

There are also three confrence talks that I always think of. The first was several years ago. I don't remember the speakers name but his talk was titled "But if not"
Then President Uchtdorfs General RS talk was ment for me. He said "What you create doesn’t have to be perfect. So what if the eggs are greasy or the toast is burned? Don’t let fear of failure discourage you. Don’t let the voice of critics paralyze you—whether that voice comes from the outside or the inside"
I want to make a plaque to hang in my house that is a quote from Elder Worthlins talk. "Come what may, and love it!"

This morning at our meeting I liked the "I can do hard things" quote as I feel I need to tell myself that quite frequently.

I like the quote "Don't give up what you want most for what you want at the moment" Great words to live by, I used to tell myself this when I wanted a reminder of that temple marriage goal. I guess it helped. Married for 10 years. It all began in the SLC temple.

Right now the quote that inspires me is in a Linkin Park song...cheesy I know...It says, "I am strong on the surface, but not all the way through....I've never been perfect, but neither have you.." It says a lot more. I love when a song feels like they picked it out of your thoughts. :) The song is called Leave out all the rest

Well this one is due to the fact that my kids have been watching Kung Fu Panda non stop since Grandma brought it over. It is "Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery and Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present."

"I believe that children are our future. Treat them well and let them lead the way."

Really, what could be deeper and more poignant than that? (Please tell me you know I'm kidding!)

I think back on all the music I used to think was cool. Shudder. So not cool! But I'm still loving good tunes.....

Just updated the music on my blog. Love my first song!!

PS
LOVED the comment you left on my DC post. So true!! I would NEVER, EVER have imagined such adventures. You?!

I heard this in a sacrament meeting two weeks ago:
"Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid."

And my favorite poem by Emily Dickinson:
Hope is that thing with feathers,
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
That never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Mags. I love your scripture. So true...something I have to remember often when I'm fed up with the "stupid" people in the world. :)

Oh, there were so many songs to fuel my "never get married" fire. And yes, I am glad that burned out. And you're being awfully hard on yourself if you think you were the only self-righteous one. I had a great big chunk of that myself (still do, if I'm not REALLY careful).
I love "Smile. It makes people wonder what you're up to." from Satchel Paige.
And the "Happy Working Song" from Enchanted just gives me the giggles when I'm cleaning the kitchen.

I went to a youth conference way back when and they had a famous speaker, I can't remember the name. Anyway he told the story that everyone knows by now about him being a seminary teacher and trying to get through the kids' heads that all music wasn't good. They weren't getting it so his wife made cinnamon rolls and he took out the center and filled it with dog poop.
then told them "Eat it, there's only one bad part."
SO that's mine. It applies to sooo many things!
