i have to tell you something.

my kids are asking what i want for christmas. i shy away from telling them that even santa can't bring me what i want. so i just repeat the age old typical mother answer, "i just want my kids to be nice to each other and not fight for one whole day."

he's gone. we miss him terribly. these are pictures of the night he left, pardon my face devoid of life and color. it was a rough day.

my uncle gunther has come to stay with us while mike is gone. he's my favorite. he's got a barrel chest, one arm missing a hand, (great story i'll tell you one day) a faded dagger tattoo on the other arm and kind eyes. when i was little he used to give us jerky from the deer hunt and airplane rides. he'd grab the back of our shirts and twirl around so we felt like we were flying. anyway he's an x marine, and a few years ago he retired, bought an rv, and then, tragically, his wife died suddenly. so after cruising the country for a few years he brought his rv here to explore alaska with us. it's very comforting having my favorite uncle sleeping downstairs with his 30 aut six, and a knife in his teeth. just kidding about the knife. anyway, uncle g, thanks for coming!!

Oh, Mags...so, so sorry Mike is gone. I heard he was heading out. How long is his deployment? How long is your uncle going to be around? Hope your Christmas is Merry!

P.S. My new books are "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown and "Olive Kitteridge" by Elizabeth Strout. I'll let you know what I think! :)

Oh Mags! My friend's hubby just got back (he is a dentist too) and she said the time went by faster that she thought it would. Hang in there. We are thinking about you. Here are some fun books to help the time pass-okay who am I kidding-they are soo good you'll probably read them in a week:
Hunger Games and Catching Fire

Did Mike measure the kids before he left to see how much they've grown when he gets back? I think that's a cool idea. So glad you've got a visitor. I'm sure that's nice, can't wait to meet him. ;) Merry christmas! I'm up for that girls night out if you want. We could just hang out at the book store or cruise the mall. Ha ha doesn't that sound funny? Who goes to the mall anymore when Target is right next door. Love the plates by the way. Oh and as I sit here I'm wearing the cutest little scrunched up stripey scarf. Thanks, and all I gave you was a phone charger. :)

Hi Maggie -

I know how you feel. I remember the day Steve left very clearly...it was not my favorite day! It will fly by though. Good luck. Amber Jensen

Mags, you are superwoman! Be strong like I know you can be, yet be weak when you need to be... My prayers are with you. You have an adorable family btw!

Oh, Mags. You are the woman. I always see these news broadcasts that show a soldier returning home to his family and I'm not kidding I bawl every time. And I don't even know them! My heart goes out to you. I don't think I could survive with Quinn gone. But that is why you are the woman and I am not. Hang in there.
